Naperville police responded about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 to a report of a suspicious person at the Brush Hill Plaza strip mall shopping center in the block of 1200 West Ogden Avenue in northwest Naperville. Police arrived to find a man in the parking lot holding a firearm to his head.
Naperville Police Officers attempted to speak with the subject, a 27-year-old white male. He then advanced on the officers and pointed the firearm directly at them. One of the police officers then shot the man. Once the man’s firearm was secured, the man was transported by Naperville firefighter/paramedics treated the man and transported him to an area hospital, where he remains in serious, but stable condition, according to the Naperville Police Department. The firearm secured at the scene was possessed by the subject. No Naperville Police personnel or other persons were injured during this incident, according to police.
The DuPage Major Crimes Task Force and State’s Attorney’s office were immediately notified and are conducting the investigation into the police officer-involved shooting.
Police did not initially release the name of the suspicious man that was shot, and did not initially release the name of the police officer that shot the man.
The most recent Naperville police officer-involved shooting was in March 2011.
Naperville Police Department asks that any citizen who may have witnessed the incident to call the Naperville Police Department at 630-420-6173 and ask for the Investigations Division.
