Prospect Heights police and firefighters responded about 1:32 a.m. Wednesday, January 23,2019 to the block of 700 Piper Lane to a report of a man in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival police and firefighter/paramedics discovered there was an assault with a deadly weapon with a suspect at large. Police and firefighter/paramedics discovered that a 26-year-old man was fatally stabbed in a first floor apartment.
Police performed CPR until the scene was declared secure at about 1:45 a.m.
Prospect Heights Police Department said police officers responded to the apartment building and located the victim lying on the floor of the apartment. The victim was transported by Prospect Heights FPD firefighter/paramedics to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they are interviewing witnesses to discover the identity of the offender, and said they believe the homicide is an isolated event.
The victim’s name was not initially released, pending notification of next of kin.
Prospect Heights Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team are investigating the case. Police say more information will be released as it becomes available.
