Illinois State police and Northbrook firefighter/paramedics responded about 3:14 PM Thursday January 17, 2019 to a report of a crash with entrapment 42.111685, -87.869475 (SB Tri-State and Mile Marker 49.01 Northbrook, Il). Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a car crashed into a truck on the I-294 (Tri-State Tollway) exit ramp to Willow Road.
Northbrook Tower Ladder 12’s crew on arrival reported a car crash into the back of a semi-trailer truck, and requested Northbrook Squad 11’s crew to the scene. Firefighter/paramedics reported one person trapped in the car.
Flight for Life was requested by 3:23 p.m. The patient was extricated by 3:37 p.m.

All southbound lanes were shut down for rescue operations and for the landing zone for the Flight for Life helicopter. The helicopter touched down in the southbound lanes of I-294, just north of Willow Road about 3:50 p.m. The patient was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
The crash was located in the opposite lanes where Illinois State Trooper Christopher Lambert was killed Saturday, January 12, 2019 about 4:45 p.m.
The crash was also reported on Waze. Southbound I-294 was backed up to Lake Cook Road at 3:50 pm. The northbound lanes of I-294 may have been shut down while the helicopter crew was operating in the area, but this is not confirmed. This is an early report before any details have been confirmed or released by authorities.
