Fox Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:34 p.m. Monday December 24, 2018 to a report of a “package” on fire on the second story balcony of a home on the block of 0-99 Highview Avenue.
Firefighters, on arrival within two to three minutes, found heavy smoke coming out of the roof eaves and heavy fire on the north side of the building. The fire was extinguished within five minutes with fire damage on the second floor. The lower level of the duplex suffered water damage.
The residence is a two-flat with the first floor was being renovated and the second floor unoccupied, according to Fox Lake Fire Department.
The package that was reported to be burning was discovered to be a winter salt container. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Round Lake Fire Department firefighters assisted Fox Lake firefighters.
