Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 4:45 a.m. Friday November 2, 2018 to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress in the block of 13200 West Greenview Drive in northeast Wadsworth. The 911 caller indicated a man was attempting to burglarize her car.
Sheriff’s Deputies, including a K-9 Team, arrived and located the suspect in the area. The male suspect ran from deputies, and entered a running vehicle that had been warming-up in a driveway in the block of 13300 West Greenview Drive. The vehicle he entered did not belong to him, but belonged to the homeowner. The suspect attempted to escape with the vehicle, but crashed into a tree. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect then brandished a pistol, and one of the sheriff’s deputies shot the man. The firearm was subsequently recovered from the suspect at the scene.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the burglary and the incident appears to be an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the community.
Per protocol and state law, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was requested to conduct an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting. Additional information will be released as it becomes available, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
