Libertyville police say a child was alert when firefighter/paramedics took the child to the hospital.
Libertyville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:10 PM Wednesday October 31, 2018 to a report of a child hit by a vehicle by a hit-and-run driver at 206 Pond Ridge Rd Libertyville, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a motorist left the scene of a personal injury crash with a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, police and fire crews found a 10 year-male who had been trick or treating with several other youths had been struck by a vehicle. The victim was conscious and breathing, and firefighter/paramedics immediately began treatment. The victim was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, where his medical treatment was continued. Last night police expected the boy would be released later Halloween night.
The offending vehicle was initially described as a dark gray or black Nissan sedan with tinted windows and heavy front-end damage. A summary by Libertyville Police Department described the vehicle as a gray Nissan or Lexus 4-door with tinted windows. The vehicle sustained front passenger side damage as a result of the incident. Fortunately the damage to the vehicle was apparently caused from striking the mailbox, not the child pedestrian.
Initially there was no description of the motorist.
Witnesses at the scene stated that the offending vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed when it jumped a curb, struck a mailbox and then the victim, who was with a group of children. Some people initially thought that a group of children were hit. The the driver of the vehicle fled the subdivision at a high rate of speed after speeding to the end of a cul de sac and then speeding out of the neighborhood.
At least one witness thought it appeared that the motorist intentionally aimed the vehicle at the group of children.
Libertyville Police are continuing their investigation, and are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident. Libertyville Police are also asking all local car dealerships and body shops to be on the watch for any vehicle matching the above description and damage that may brought in for repairs.
Anyone having information is asked to contact Libertyville Police at 847-362-8310.
