A surface frontal boundary remains just south of the Chicago forecast area this evening, ranging from near Kansas City to Bloomington IL and Indianapolis. Thunderstorms were tracking east-northeast, just north of the front across northern Illinois.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows thunderstorms with potentially heavy rain moving east-northeast across northern Illinois. Arlington Heights should get its first round of potentially severe weather by 9:00 p.m. Several additional rounds could pass over Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs overnight.

* From 7 PM CDT this evening through Saturday afternoon
* Heavy rain producing thunderstorms are likely over northern Illinois tonight. Given that numerous thunderstorms may track over the same locations, significant rainfall amounts of over 2 inches, and locally, up to 4 inches, are possible across a portion of northern IL into Saturday morning.
* Expect additional rises on area rivers, particularly the Rock, Pecatonica and Fox River basins. Portions of these rivers are already above flood stage or are close to flood stage and this rainfall will worsen river conditions.
