About 9:30 p.m. a sharp cold front stretches from low pressure over Ontario and northern Lake Superior, southwest across Wisconsin and into eastern Iowa. The most likely timing for the threat for storms is midnight for the Rockford area, and by 1:00 a.m. for the Chicago area. The storms have formed a thin line across Iowa and Wisconsin, and will end abruptly with the passage of the cold front during the pre-dawn hours. The storms will be of short duration sometime between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., but could be severe.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows storms starting to develop near Rockford ahead of a thin line in eastern Iowa and southwest Wisconsin at 9:45 p.m. The storms are moving southwest to northeast as the cold front moves west to east.
A line of storms will move across the area late this eve & tonight. Scattered storms are psbl ahead of the main line of storms, but the majority of storms & impacts will come from the main line. Isolated severe storms capable of producing damaging winds are psbl N of I-80. pic.twitter.com/Xe9cqRrBJl
