Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Newport Township firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:30 p.m. Friday October 26, 2018 to a report of a freight train crash with a semi-trailer truck on the Canadian Pacific tracks across Route 173 (Rosecrans Road) east of Route 41 in Wadsworth. There were no injuries reported, and the truck driver was able to escape before the truck was hit.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the truck driver was driving a around a car that stopped suddenly, and the truck jackknifed. The train was northbound, and the semi-trailer truck was westbound when the crash occurred. A motorist first in line on Route 173 near the railroad crossing was running a dashcam and captured the crash. The crash was later published on the personal Facebook page for Brian Ambrose. In the video, there are skid marks aligned with the truck indicating the truck made a sudden stop. The driver with the dashcam backed up on the road, apparently attempting to avoid being hit by crash debris
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that some damage occurred at the crossing. After the crash, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said the railroad crossing would be closed for about six hours.
