Mundelein police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 7:44 p.m. Sunday September 24, 2018 to a report of a car vs. pedestrian incident on Route 45 just south of Hickory Street.
Upon arrival, police and firefighter/paramedics discovered that a 63 year-old woman suffered severe injuries after being hit by a vehicle. The woman was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead.
The 63-year-old woman was killed Sunday when struck by a car as she tried to walk across Route 45 in Mundelein, police said. The type of vehicle involved in the incident was not initially released by Mundelein Police Department.
Police identified the woman as a resident of Mundelein. Initial investigation revealed she was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 45. Initially the Mundelein woman’s identity was withheld pending notification of family.
No obvious indications of alcohol or drugs influencing the driver were observed by police immediately after the crash. The driver, a 53-year-old Vernon Hills resident, was also transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center, and was not initially charged or issued any citations. The crash is under investigation by Mundelein police and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
