Police are searching for three people involved in a shooting that killed two teenage boys Wednesday afternoon just blocks from Guaranteed Rate Field.
Chicago police, firefighters and paramedics responded about 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September 26, 2018 to a report of a shooting at 35th Street and LaSalle Street. Police paramedics that discovered two teens were shot near the Red Line CTA train station. The crime scene is within sight of Guaranteed Rate Field home stadium for the Chicago White Sox.
Police said the shots were fired during a confrontation between several young males. Police said two males were walking down the street when three unknown male suspects fired shots at the two males. The suspects fled in a beige Ford Explorer. No suspects are in custody, but police are in contact with an eyewitness, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police said a 17-year-old and 16-year-old were transported to hospitals, where they were initially listed in critical condition. Both were pronounced dead a short time after arrival at the hospitals.
The 17-year-old victim, transported to Stroger Hospital, had been shot in the chest, abdomen and face. The 16-year-old was transported to University of Chicago Hospital. Initially his gunshot wounds were not described.
“We have a very good eyewitness to this particular incident so I know our detectives we have some of the best detectives in the country. So I’m sure they will do their best to bring some resolution to this.”

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said preliminary investigation indicated there was a verbal altercation near the Youth Connections Charter School, an alternative high school for 16 to 21-year-olds. Youth Connections Charter School is located near the intersection of 35th and State Streets. Johnson said the people involved fled the area westbound on 35th Street and ended up near the intersection of 35th Street and LaSalle Street.
The two teens may have been students at Youth Connection Leadership Academy, but police were checking to confirm that the shooting victims were students at the school.
The crime scene was located less than 1,000 feet east of Guaranteed Rate Field, the home of Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox.
