In a tribute to move star Burt Reynolds, AMC Theatres is bringing back the 1977 comedy “Smokey and the Bandit” for a nine-day run. Burt Reynolds, the leading man in “Smokey and the Bandit” died of a heart attack on Thursday, September 6, 2018. “Smokey and the Bandit” earned a total domestic gross of $126 million for Universal, and was one of the most successful movies in Burt Reynolds’ career.

AMC Theatres announced Friday September 7, 2018 that “Smokey and the Bandit” will play at 240 AMC locations from Sept. 12 to Sept. 20 with a $5 ticket price (or lower depending on the theater). Showtimes and tickets are scheduled to be on sale at participating locations by Sunday night.
Reynolds portrayed Bo “Bandit” Darville, starring alongside Jerry Reed’s character, Cledus Snow, as they transported 400 cases of bootleg Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas to Atlanta in 28 hours for an $80,000 compensation.
“Smokey and the Bandit” contained a series of high-speed chases with Reynolds driving a black Pontiac Trans-Am while Sally Field starred as passenger and runaway bride Carrie, who was picked up by Bo “Bandit” Darville while on their Coors mission. In the script, Carrie ditched the son of Texas Sheriff Buford T. Justice, and drags “Bandit” into the obsessed pursuit of the sheriff, accompanied by his son — the jilted groom.
