Warm air and a cold front tonight will bring thunderstorms to the area. Low clouds are burning off in the morning, giving way to sunshine and warmth, but this afternoon the weather could de-stabilize to bring a few severe thunderstorms — especially between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. A high of 77°F to 81°F is expected from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with wind gusts picking up 16 to 30 MPH (SW-W-WNW) about noon today to 4:00 am. Wednesday. There may be about 0.25″ rain this afternoon and evening, unless heavier rain occurs in local severe thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service Chicago has mentioned the small chance of a tornado, but the Storm Prediction Center’s convective outlook has placed the highest risk area (5%) over northeast Indiana, southeast Michigan, and northwest Ohio. Chicago and the northern two-third of Illinois and small portions of Missouri, Iowa and southeast Wisconsin are in a 2% risk area for a tornado.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) in northeast Illinois is clear.
