MORE THUNDERSHOWERS WITH LIGHTNING POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON
The National Weather Service reports a convective trend for Thursday afternoon and early mid-evening. A trough/cold frontal zone is forecast to enter Chicagoland mid-morning through mid-day. A wind shift from west-southwest to from north is forecast to occur between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. with no significant drop in temperature. A high temperature of 85°F is forecast for 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Today will be pleasant and breezy with peak gusts about 20 MPH from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The greatest chance for rain, lightning and thunder is from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Hot days are forecast to return Saturday through Monday.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows a small thunderstorm cell moving generally eastbound a little bigger than the entire size of Arlington Heights and directly over Arlington Heights at 8:55 a.m. The cell was not detected on radar as late as as 7:20 a.m. and was barely detected on radar in northeast Kane County at 7:55 a.m. By 8:15 a.m. the cell was clearly defined thunderstorm cell, and the only cell detected in northeast Illinois. The cell brought a lightning strike this morning to a house on Haman Road near the Holy Family Catholic Community Parish on Palatine Road in Inverness.
