The Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and Antioch Fire Department paramedics responded about 5:40 PM Friday, August 10, 2018 to a report of an unresponsive male in the area of Barnacle Bob’s Boat Rentals on Lake Marie, located on the Chain O’ Lakes. The unresponsive man had already been pulled from the water when the Lake County Sheriff’s Marine Unit Deputies arrived.
The victim, a 70-year-old male from Lake Villa, was treated by Antioch Fire Department paramedics, and was transported to St. Catherine’s Medical Center in Kenosha, where he was listed in critical condition.
Preliminary investigation shows the man was on the front of his Crestliner Fishing boat with two adult male friends. A wave or wake hit the boat, causing it to sway and knocked the man off the boat. A witness on a different boat observed the man struggling in the water. The witness pulled the man from the boat and began CPR.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
