Crystal Lake police and McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 8:08 PM Monday August 27, 2018 to a report of a man with a gun at a house in the block of 400 Charlotte Avenue Crystal Lake, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report that a woman’s husband had a gun during a domestic disturbance. Information in this incident is not confirmed, and does not include any official information from police.
UPDATE: A 25 year-old man was in custody — possibly just before 9:39 p.m. Police say there are no charges connected to the incident, and the man was transported to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
At about 8:14 p.m. police on scene reported shots fired. Later the “shots fired” statement was reported to be a miscommunication. The noise was actually a shattering windshield.
Streets in the neighborhood were blocked, and firefighter/paramedics were dispatched to standby at about 8:16 p.m.
Fair Oaks Avenue, Briarwood Road, and Charlotte Avenue were shut down in the area. A police perimeter was set up around the house. Lakewood police assisted McHenry County Sheriff and Crystal Lake police early in the call. Other police agencies also responded to the scene.
Extra fire department units were dispatched to stand by at about 8:50 p.m.
The status of the call is reported to be a barricaded subject incident with police tactical units at the scene, and police negotiations or attempted negotiations in progress.
The call is reported to be in McHenry County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction.
