Antioch firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018 to a report that a woman drove a Jeep into Antioch Lake of Route 173, Antioch Township. The female driver in her mid-30s called 911 about 1:30 p.m. when she awakened inside her vehicle to discover the hood and doors of her Jeep were submerged in the lake water. She was unable to open any of the vehicle doors.
Fire department divers were able to open a door from the outside and pull the woman to safety in about a 10 minute rescue operation.
The woman was able to walk with assistance at least part way to the ambulance, and was conscious when she was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She apparently fainted while driving on Route 173, and drove into Antioch Lake.
