Lindenhurst police in Lake County responded about 2:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 to a report that a 41-year-old woman was physically battered while walking her dog on the outdoor trail between the Lindenhurst Park District and Jefferson Drive. The trail runs from the park district property north, between the backyards of houses on Federal Parkway and a woods area along Hastings Creek — a distance of about 1500 feet. The outdoor trail includes a Bike Route and Pedestrian Pathway, an Observation Deck overlooking Hastings Creek, and access to Engle Memorial Park/Community Center.

Lindenhurst Police did not specify the exact time the incident occurred, and did not initially provide a description of the offender.

Police also did not specify whether paramedics were dispatched to assess and treat the battered woman.

“This is an active investigation and all resources are being used to try to ascertain exactly what occurred.”

— Lindenhurst Police Chief Thomas Jones
