Round Lake police responded about 2:01 AM Monday July 30, 2018 to a report that a female victim was punched in a possible home invasion at a house on Park Road just east of the intersection of Park Road and Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake, Illinois. Police received a report that a man entered a room inside the house, and punched a female resident at the house. The woman escaped while bleeding to a neighbor’s house and called 9-1-1.
Police arrived and immediately discovered the female victim at a neighbor’s house. Firefighter/paramedics were dispatched near the scene for an injured female battery victim about 2:03 a.m. The injured female victim was transported to a nearby hospital.
Park Road was blocked off east of Cedar Lake Road as soon as police arrived. Cedar Lake Road was also blocked a few minutes later.
With police surrounding the house, a woman came out of the victim’s house about 3:00 a.m. with her hands up. This was after police ordered people to come out of the house with their hands up when they saw a door close shut at the house. The police had surrounded the house with rifles aimed at the house. A woman wearing a black dress apparently had gone back into the house after the home invasion to get her purse. She was safely evacuated from the house, but initially police had to confirm she wasn’t a suspect, and they had her turn around and drop to her knees before the situation was secured. It was very dark in the neighborhood at 3:00 a.m. and the police initially did not know whether the offender was in the house, in the neighborhood, or long gone from the area.
As the woman in the black dress came out of the house with her hands up, she asked “What happened?” She also told police “Nice person and everything lives there!” She apparently was unaware why police were surrounding the house. The woman apparently did not realize there had been a report of a home invasion or why police were pointing guns at the house. A woman outside the house asked the woman in the black dress why she went back in the house. The woman in the black dress answered, “My purse was in there.”
This case is developing, and there is no information yet released from police regarding whether a suspect was captured or is at large. Round Lake police are investigating what happened.
