Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:06 AM Tuesday July 10, 2018 to a report of a fire outside the Bourbon Square Apartments clubhouse, 500 East Independence Drive Palatine, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a fire outside the clubhouse from Pennsylvania Drive, followed by call that the outside rear deck of the clubhouse on Independence Drive may be involved with fire.
The first Palatine Fire Department crews arrived on the scene at 5:12 a.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of the clubhouse. A hose line was pulled and advanced to the rear of the clubhouse where fire companies discovered a deck fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was confined to the deck and exterior trim on the clubhouse building. Additional fire companies performed a search of the clubhouse to locate any hidden fire and to confirm that the building was unoccupied. The fire was declared under control at 5:16 a.m. Firefighters continued to perform salvage, overhaul, and investigative activities after the fire was extinguished.
No civilians or firefighters were injured in the fire which was contained to the deck and patio area behind the clubhouse. Damage estimates were not available at the time of Palatine’s press release. Fire Department Investigators determined that the fire began in the area around the barbecue grill and extended to the surrounding cabinetry and deck. The cause of the fire is under investigation at the time of this release.
Palatine Fire Department reports the fire was fought by 22 firefighters staffing three engines, two ladder trucks, three ambulances, and one rescue squad which responded to the scene along with two command officer and one fire investigator. A unit from the Arlington Heights Fire Department was among the initial responders to the scene as part of an automatic aid agreement. An ambulance from the Long Grove Fire Protection District stood by in a Palatine Fire Station to assist with additional calls during this incident. Palatine Police officers assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control.
