Crystal Lake police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:51 p.m. Tuesday July 17, 2018 to a report that a girl was found unresponsive in open water a the Three Oaks Recreation Area, 5517 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.
Police and firefighter/paramedics learned on arrival that a 6-year-old girl had been rescued by citizens from the lake after she was found face down in the water and unresponsive, according to Crystal Lake police. Citizen rescuers pulled her out and immediately began performing CPR. A lifeguard soon arrived and all continued to provide CPR until paramedics arrived.
Paramedics provided Advanced Life Support treatment and transported the girl by ambulance to Centegra Hospital-Huntley. The girl was then transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge by Flight for Life. Her condition was listed stable, according to police.
Three Oaks Recreation Area — a city-owned beach part of Vulcan Lake — was closed for the rest of the day. Crystal Lake police are investigating the near-drowning, and are interviewing witnesses and lifeguards.
