The Fox Lake Police Department is currently conducting a criminal animal cruelty/animal neglect investigation of the owner of a miniature greyhound named Orion. Police initially did not know the name of the dog, but recently learned the name of the dog. The investigation involves a resident in the block of 0 to 100 Lawrence, Fox Lake, Illinois. Orion was found extremely malnourished and in grave physical shape by an off-duty Lake County Sheriff’s Sergeant. When Orion was found, he did not have a collar, microchip or tags and the owner was not near the dog. Out of concern for Orion’s health, the Sergeant brought the dog to the nearest veterinarian. After an examination, the veterinarian determined Orion was malnourished, displayed significant signs of neglect and in such grave condition that he needed to be euthanized. The Sergeant paid for the doctor’s visit with his own money.
Fox Lake Police Department reports that the owner of the dog has taken to social media with a very untrue account of the events. She has also posted the Sergeant’s home address. We felt it’s important to share the facts as we know them with the community. The owner of Orion is under investigation and Fox Lake Police Department asks that if anyone in the community has information about the neglect of Orion or any other animals at the residence, that they please contact Fox Lake Police Detectives at 847-587-3100.
