Fire at warehouse during renovation on Lakeview Ct, Mt Prospect.
Mount Prospect police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:57 PM Monday July 16, 2018 to a report of a fire at a warehouse with a man trapped on the roof at 431 Lakeview Ct Mount Prospect, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a warehouse with a man trapped on the roof.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was showing from the rear of the building and all construction workers had evacuated the building.
Firefighters extinguished a fire in a dumpster inside the warehouse and ventilated the building. Significant smoke filled the warehouse.
The warehouse was vacant, except for construction workers who working to renovate the building. The warehouse is approximately a 200 foot by 500 foot u-shaped building.
Apparently sparks from construction work — while workers were cutting steel on the roof — ignited dumpster content inside the warehouse.
Significant acrid smoke was still coming out of open doors of the building at 2:15 p.m. A MABAS mobile ventilation unit MVU-1 was called to the scene to rapidly clear smoke from the building. After the fire was reported, the National Weather Service office at O’Hare International Airport reported wind was from the southeast about 5-8 MPH. During a thunderstorm reported in the vicinity O’Hare at 1:51 p.m., winds were temporarily reported at north 16 MPH with gusts to 21 MPH.
There were no injuries reported at the scene.
