Chicago firefighters quickly put out the flames, but the incident halted trains on the CTA Pink, Green, and Blue lines for a couple of hours while crews checked the tracks.
Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:00 PM Tuesday July 31, 2018 to a report of railroad ties on fire on the Pink Line incline between Ashland and Paulina. , Ashland Ave and Congress Pkwy Chicago, Il. Fire command on scene reports railroad ties on fire on the Pink Line incline between Ashland and Paulina. The fire is affecting elevated tracks not ground tracks. Firefighters are out with a line after fire extinguishers from CTA personnel could not extinguish the fire.
Battalion 4 reported the fire was out about 1:41 p.m. and added that firefighters were working on hot spots.
