Elmhurst Police were searching the area of North Avenue and Larch Street after a retail theft suspect escaped from police custody about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday June 13, 2016.
UPDATE: POLICE HAVE LOCATED THE OFFENDER AND HE WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT AT 10:15 p.m. FORMAL CHARGES ARE PENDING.
The suspect is described as a male/Hispanic male, 38-year-old, five feet eight inches tall, about 180 pounds. Police reported he was wearing a yellow T-shirt with Ramen noodle advertising on the front of the shirt, and red pants. The suspect was wearing handcuffs when he escaped.
The suspect was last seen eastbound on North Avenue on foot, just northeast of downtown Elmhurst.
Police believe the suspect has likely left the area, but urged citizens to call 9-1-1 if they believe they saw the suspect.
