Hoffman Estates police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:06 AM Sunday June 24, 2018 to a report of an extrication crash on 42.066757, -88.186281 (Wb Interstate 90 and Sutton Road Hoffman Estates, Il). Illinois State Police and Elgin and Hoffman Estates firefighter/paramedics received a report of a four-vehicle extrication crash on westbound I-90 east of Route 59.
Callers in the crash reported they were on westbound I-90 at Mile Marker 57.25. One patient was reported unconscious, and a second ambulance from Hoffman Estates was immediately dispatched on that information.
A Hoffman Estates fire crew on arrival reported two cars on the right shoulder and one car on the left shoulder with heavy damage.
Brian Schmidt, age 28, was riding in the back seat of a 2001 black Lexus heading westbound. Schmidt was transported to local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:42 a.m. Sunday according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Illinois State Police reported the crash occurred about 4:03 a.m.
The driver and front seat passenger of the Lexus were transported to a local hospital. Both were treated and released.
A second vehicle involved, a 2008 Pontiac SUV, contained a driver and two passengers, but they may have refused medical treatment.
It is unknown whether two other vehicles were stopped to help or were involved in the crash.
Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
