The Elk Grove Village Hometown Parade scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2018 has been canceled due to the extreme heat forecast for the safety of all participants. The National Weather Service had issued an Excessive Heat Watch leading up to a period of dangerous high heat and humidity forecast Saturday to Monday. The heat alert was upgraded to an Excessive Heat Warning at 9:21 a.m. Saturday.
The NWS forecast for Elk Grove Village predicts a temperature of 92°F at 2:00 p.m. with a high of 93°F from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The heat index for Saturday in Elk Grove Village is forecast to reach 100°F.
Suburbs further from the lake have a higher heat index forecast for Saturday. Aurora is forecast to reach 104°F and Fox Lake is forecast to reach 105°F
The Elk Grove Rotary Fest still will take place, where attendees are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun as much as possible. Elk Grove Village cooling centers available during the extreme heat include the Elk Grove Public Library, Elk Grove Village Park District Pavilion, The Hattendorf Center and the Elk Grove Village Municipal Center.
