Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:53 AM Saturday May 12, 2018 to a report of a white tent and gas tanks on fire at Soldier Field, 1410 Museum Campus Drive Chicago. Engine 8’s crew while responding reported black smoke showing. Engine 8’s crew on arrival reported they see a large rubbish fire.
Chicago Fire Department was requested to respond to the Gate 14 turn around, but at least one report says the fire was closer to Gate 6. Gates 6 to 14 are located at the southeast area of Soldier Field. The fire was inside a tent in grassy area about 100 feet from an exterior wall of the stadium.
Witnesses at Soldier Field are reporting that a propane tank caught fire at an Autism Speaks walking event. One witness reported the fire was at the White Castle tent, but video shows the fire may have been next-door to the White Castle tent. White Castle is a known contributor to Autism Speaks.
Video shows the fire was outside Soldier Field, and that an explosion was heard on video. A witness, who took video from a high-rise in the South Loop area, reported seeing a fireball about the height of the flags that are on the lower perimeter wall of the stadium. the video was captured immediately after the fireball occurred.
