Illinois State Police and other police agencies responded on Monday, April 30, 2018 when a resident called 9-11 to report a burglary or suspicious activity at a home in Barrington Hills at the same time that an Illinois State Police task force were following the suspects as they were under surveillance.
The Illinois State Police Ruse Burglary Task Force arrested five men as they fled out the backyard and the front door, and as an alleged ruse burglary of an 87-year-old Barrington Hills woman was in progress in her home.
The five suspects from Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect and Des Plaines were under investigation and surveillance for stealing $60,000 from a another senior homeowner in a previous crime. Some of the five male suspects went to the woman’s house on Monday, April 30, 2018, rang her doorbell and had her exit her house to her backyard to view landscaping, while the other suspects broke into her home and entered her bedroom, according to Illinois State Police.
The woman became suspicious when the suspects asked her whether anyone else was home. She asked the crew to leave, and as she began to call 911, she saw two men running from her bedroom and out the front door of her house.
At the same time, members of the state police’s Ruse Burglary Task Force and other law enforcement agencies were already on the scene, and arrested all five suspects.
