FLOOD WARNING: STREAMWOOD AND HOFFMAN ESTATES MAY BE HARDEST HIT
Localized heavy rainfall is possible as thunderstorms from an “outer band” remnant of Subtropical Storm Alberto edge eastward toward Arlington Heights, which is on the edge of a Flood Warning activation. Wheeling, Northbrook, Highland Park, Mount Prospect, and Des Plaines are just outside the Flood Warning area. Streamwood and Hoffman Estates have already experienced heavy rainfall as of 5:15 p.m. and have already received some reports of flooded basements, flooded loading docks, and stranded motorists in flooded roadways and parking lots.
While areas as far east Arlington Heights might not see the localized flooding as severe as suburbs just to the west of Arlington Heights, streams in Arlington Heights are downstream from harder hit areas and might see a quick rise in rapid water.
Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows an “outer band” remnant of heavy precipitation from Subtropical Storm Alberto that runs from north of Milwaukee to south of Danville. An area of heavy rain is likely to cover all of Arlington Heights by 5:25 p.m.
If the band of rain stalls over our area, we could see in excess of 2 inches of rain in Arlington Heights, but if the band passes through the area rainfall will likely be about 0.75 to 1.25 inch.
A Flood Warning in effect for the bright green highlighted areas in IL due to showers & t-storms producing torrential downpours across the warning area. This is expected to cause widespread flooding to occur, especially in low lying areas. Do not drive across flooded roads. #ilwx pic.twitter.com/GpmBkQHXdd

Periods of heavy rain are possible with highest rainfall totals expected along & east of Interstate 39. There is a chance of t-storms through this eve. While the majority of storms will not be severe, stronger storms may be capable of producing wind gusts up to 50+ MPH. pic.twitter.com/aZzfWltcZc

Regional radar loop via @CODMeteorology shows the well defined circulation of Alberto's remnants & broken bands of showers & t-storms producing heavy rain developing west of circulation over Illinois. The spin evident on radar also helps explain funnel cloud risk. #ilwx #inwx pic.twitter.com/OuJ9Ar1elD
