Police received a report that a South Middle School female student was walking home from school Tuesday, April 3, 2018, and was inappropriately propositioned by a male driver at the stop sign intersection of Fairview Street and Patton Avenue. The student ignored the driver and continued walking. The driver of the vehicle left the scene, heading eastbound on Fairview Street towards Arlington Heights Road.
The driver was described as a white male, early 20’s, with a medium build. He was driving a 4-door, maroon car. The student did not observe the vehicle’s license plate number.
Upon arriving home, the student immediately told her parents, and her parents notified the Arlington Heights Police Department. The Arlington Heights police issued a patrol alert to their patrol officers regarding this incident.
South Middle School/District 25 reminded parents that this situation brings to light the importance of taking the time to talk with children about “stranger danger” and the importance of immediately reporting any suspicious incident to an adult and the police.
South Middle School and District 25 officials recommended that kids walk in pairs or small groups whenever possible.
The crime is reported to have occurred “sometime Tuesday afternoon, April 3, 2018.” The intersection of Fairview Street and Patton Avenue is located just southwest of Pioneer Park, and is about 0.8 mile ( a 15-16 minute walk) southwest of South Middle School, 400 South Highland Avenue.
