Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Wauconda Fire District responded about 12:23 p.m. Wednesday April 18, 2018 to Route 120 at Ellis Drive in Volo to the report of a crash with injuries.
Off-duty paramedics were were already administering CPR to a female crash victim when sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene. The woman was identified as a 24 year-old Round Lake Park woman, and was removed from a sedan and transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of an SUV was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not initially considered to be life-threatening.
Initial investigation determined that a 55-year-old Gurnee woman was driving in the SUV eastbound on Route 120, west of Ellis Drive, when for an unknown reason the female driver of the sedan entered the eastbound lanes of Route 120 and struck the SUV, police said.
The identity of the woman who was killed was not initially released pending positive identification and notification of her family. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy Thursday morning.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is investigating the crash. The speed limit is 45 MPH west of the intersection and 50 MPH east of the intersection.
