CBS 2’s Jeremy Ross reports on a how a Brinks truck was allegedly held up at gunpoint where the suspect or suspect took at least three bags of money.
Hammond police responded about 7:31 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2018 to an armed robbery of a Brinks armored truck in front of the Chase Bank, 4204 South Calumet Avenue in Hammond, Indiana.
Police received a report that a male shot at the Brinks driver, and fled in an older model brown Cadillac with tinted windows.
The offenders were described as two male/black, age 20-30, wearing masks, jogger, and one was wearing New Balance shoes.
The offenders also took one of the Brinks employees’ firearm, and were last seen at 142nd Street and Calumet Avenue near the bank, which is located just west of the Indiana Tollway (I-90).
The getaway vehicle was reported to have been found burning about 2 miles away near the Harbor Point Estates manufactured home property in the block of 4000 East 134th Street about 7:43 a.m. Saturday. Chicago Fire Department responded with a fire engine to the scene at about 7:43 a.m. Hammond firefighters also received a report of a vehicle fire at or near 3550 Sheffield Avenue, which is a gas station at Sheffield Avenue and 136th Street, which becomes 134th Street across the border in Illinois.
The offenders were reported to have taken $500,000 cash in three money bags, and also were reported to have taken the Brinks driver’s firearm.
Details on this early report have not been confirmed by authorities.
Initially the precise name of the armored car company was unknown, but photos released by a witness showed that a Brinks truck was on the scene, and being investigated.
