Chicago police responded about 6:25 PM Friday, March 2, 2018 to the area of Water Tower Place, 875 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago to a report of a possible active shooter. Police on scene realized there was no longer a shooter on the scene. The incident was changed from Active Shooter to “Shots Fired” and SWAT was cancelled; however there were a lot of police officers and units on the scene.
CPD will have extra patrols in the area of Michigan Avenue Friday night, according to Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.
Early report reported the dispute may have occurred on the 7th Floor at Water Tower Place. Police are reviewing surveillance video to attempt identify the suspect.
The mall and the area around it have been fully reopened to traffic and pedestrians.
Initially no injuries were reported. There were possibly multiple offenders — 12 or more connected to the shooter.
CPD released information that a dispute between two groups resulted in an offender discharging a gun.
