A Palatine resident Candace Matranga-Perez, age 37, on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to stealing more than $97,000 from an 81-year-old relative.
Prosecutors said Matranga-Perez used the the 81-year-old victim’s debit card and personal checks to take more than $97,000 from the woman’s bank account between December 15, 2016 and February 14, 2017. Palatine police said she used the money to purchase and SUV, and pay for more than 100 items.
When police became aware of the theft reported as a “substantial” amount of money missing from the victim’s bank account, they used video surveillance and other evidence that connected Candace Matranga-Perez to the financial theft.
Candace Matranga-Perez was also ordered to continue drug and alcohol treatment and to undergo a mental health evaluation.
Candace Matranga-Perez was also ordered to pay $454 in fines.
