Police said the officer was treated at the hospital and released a short time after disarming a carjacking suspect. CBS 2’s Mai Martinez reports.
An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured Thursday March 8, 2018 about 10:15 a.m. in the block of 7500 Champlain Avenue during an attempted carjacking.
The off-duty CPD officer shot at the suspect and was able to disarm the suspect during a struggle, before the suspect fled to an alley in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood.
The suspect was not struck by the bullet, and the suspect’s firearm was recovered. The suspect was not immediately in custody.
The Chicago police officer suffered an injury to his hand and was transported to an area hospital where he was expected to be treated and released, according to Chicago police.
