David Ogden Stiers, the “M*A*S*H” television star who played Major Charles Emerson Winchester III, and who was nominated for two Emmys for his role as the “M*A*S*H” character and for his role in the mini-series “The First Olympics: Athens 1896” has died, according to his talent agency. David Ogden Stiers was 75.
David Ogden Stiers had battled bladder cancer, according to his talent agency. He died at home in Newport, Oregon.
Stiers was born on Halloween, October 31, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Margaret Elizabeth (née Ogden) and Kenneth Truman Stiers. He attended Urbana High School as a freshman, and one of his classmates was Roger Ebert.
The star of “M*A*S*H” appeared in many TV series dating back to 1975. The “M*A*S*H” television series ran from 1977-1983.
Recently he had been more active as a voice actor.
