Chicago police are investigating 11-12 armed robberies and an attempting carjacking of a limousine on Montrose Avenue near Kimball Avenue that occurred within an hour’s time on Chicago’s Northwest Side Monday morning before dawn.
Chicago Police received a report that two to four male suspects driving a black 2005 Nissan sedan with license plate number Q817490 were involved in robberies just before sunrise. The offenders have been approaching people and robbing them in the 17th Police District in the Albany Park neighborhood. The robberies were located in the east section of the Albany neighborhood with all crime scenes east of Monticello Avenue or east of 3600 West. Crime scenes included locations as far north as Argyle Street or near the North Branch of the Chicago River.
About 5:30 a.m., two men tried to carjack a limousine driver in the block of 3400 West Montrose Avenue, according to a report to police. The two men apparently tried to jump into the limo, but the driver was able to pull at least one of the offenders out of the vehicle. The limo driver reported some minor injuries from wrestling with one of the men.
A third male was suspected of standing by in a getaway car or chase car, which may have been stolen in a different carjacking.
Chicago police in the 17th District have been investigating at least 11 or 12 robberies, with most happening between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

In one of the armed robberies, one of the victims was able to overpower one of the offenders and take his weapon. The weapon was then turned in to police.
