UPDATE FROM LAKE PARK HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 108 …
Lake Park High School administration has made the decision to cancel classes on February 23, 2018 due to the significant disruption to the school day based on the social media threat.
The Roselle Police Department continues to maintain there is no credible threat against Lake Park.
We understand the heightened level of concern and significant number of parents who have been picking-up their students from campus. Please be reassured that safety is the District’s highest priority.
School busses will be dispatched to East Campus at approximately 10:30 a.m. followed by West Campus. Students will be dismissed upon P.A. announcement.
Thank you for your cooperation to keep our students safe.
Lake Park High School District 108 officials and Roselle Police Department responded Friday morning February 23, 2018 to a report of a potential threat. District 108 reported on their official website that Lake Park High School administration was notified by parents and students about a potential threat. Upon receipt of the information, Lake Park High School officials have been working closely with Roselle Police Department to investigate the level of credibility.
After investigating, Roselle Police Department’s ongoing initial assessment has concluded there is no credible information or threat at this time (by 9:45 a.m.).
As a precaution, both campuses are being carefully monitored and there is additional police presence.
The safety of students and staff is always our highest priority. We understand students, parents and staff members have a heightened sense of concern in light of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
Administration is carefully reviewing the situation and understand that parents may want to remove their student from school.
Currently, students are proceeding to their next class and continuing normal operations.
A witness reported that Lake Park High School was on total lockdown (nobody allowed in or out), but there was no mention of a lockdown on an alert on Lake Park High School’s official website. The school’s Twitter account did not include a post about the incident.
Roselle Police Department did not post an alert about the incident as of 9:55 a.m. and it appears that Roselle Police Department does not have a Twitter account.
