A supermoon is a full moon or a new moon that approximately coincides with the closest distance that the Moon reaches to Earth in its elliptic orbit. The result is the Moon looking larger than normal.
The technical name is the perigee syzygy of the Earth–Moon–Sun system. Syzygy is the straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies in a gravitational system.
The Wolf Moon is the name given the January Full Moon by the Farmer’s Almanac.

Notice anything different about tonight’s full Moon? The Moon is at or near its closest point in orbit around Earth and can appear up to 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than usual. Go outside and take a look at the first #supermoon of 2018. pic.twitter.com/DTx5BJG4iF

Researchers found that motorcycle fatalities increase by a whopping 32% on nights with a supermoon due to people looking up at it. That's really sad, especially since the supermoon is a media myth. It's only 6% bigger, which is basically imperceptible. https://t.co/uCiPW17w3b pic.twitter.com/1kn7ZPgoP2
