West Chicago police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:00 PM Sunday January 7, 2018 to a report of a extrication crash with a report of two unconscious with one of the patients possibly in full arrest. The crash initially was reported as Route 59 and North Avenue, but was actually at Route 59 and Meade West Chicago, Il.
Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a crash involving several vehicles with one vehicle crashed into a pole.
A caller to 9-1-1 reported two unconscious crash victims with one of the patients possibly in cardiac arrest. The crash initially was reported as Route 59 and North Ave. Meade Road is just north of North Avenue.
Police reported that Route 59 was very slick while responding to the crash.
The first crew on arrival reported by 4:06 p.m. that there were four cars in the crash scene, with heavy damage on two of the cars. The arriving crew also reported that people were still inside some of the vehicles.
Squad 7 was requested at 4:07 p.m.
An EMS BOX was initially requested at 4:07 PM and a full pin-in assignment was also requested. The EMS Box was held and the crash was managed with the ambulances due in the “Pin-in Assignment” and including one additional ambulance. The Pin-in Assignment and extra ambulance brought four extra Medics (ambulances) for a total of six ambulances.
DuPage County Sheriff’s deputies and West Chicago police were on the scene, and traffic on Route 59 blocked in both directions.
One patient was pronounced dead at the scene. Four people were transported with injuries believed to be critical injuries, and five or six other patients were believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
