Chicago police, firefighters, and paramedics responded about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday January 16, 2018 to the area northeast of Lumber Street and Canal Street after an Amtrak worker was injured and killed at a mechanical facility in Chicago’s South Loop. A large Amtrak railroad yard is located south of Union Station, where Lumber Street enters the railroad yard.
The incident occurred near the service and inspection building near Canal Street, according to Marc Magliari, an Amtrak spokesman. The injured worker was found on railroad tracks inside the yard.
No other injuries were reported.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the fatal incident.

The victim’s name was not immediately released, pending notification of family.
