Libertyville police with the assistance of the DEA and Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group on Monday December 11, 2017 arrested Benjamin J. Sandholm, 33, of the block of 400 Larchmont Lane, Vernon Hills. Sandholm was charged with theft (over $500) and unlawful acquisition of controlled substances. Sandholm was apprehended at his home on a street lined with single family homes, and transported to the Lake County jail.
Following a joint investigation involving the U.S. Department of Justice/Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group (LCMEG) and Libertyville Police Department, it was determined that Sandholm took approximately $500 worth of drugs without permission from Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 North Milwaukee Avenue in Libertyville between March 2017 and October 2017 during the course of his employment as a registered nurse.
A public defender was appointed for Sandholm in court on December 12, 2017 and Sandholm was bonded out of jail, according to court records.
According to the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation, Sandholm was issued his license as a registered nurse March 18, 2016, and had not been disciplined prior to his arrest.
