Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Grayslake firefighter/paramedics responded about December 11, 2017 at approximately 3:20 AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Rollins Road west of Route 45, Avon Township. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a Jeep Grand Cherokee with major damage. The crash was reported on Rollins Road about one-half mile west of Route 45 with a ComEd utility pole down. No arcing or sparking was reported.
Preliminary investigation shows the Jeep, driven by Raquel Vazquez-Cordada, 32, of the 600 block of Clarke Avenue, Waukegan, was traveling eastbound on Rollins Road, at a high rate of speed. Vazquez-Cordada lost control of his SUV and drove onto the south shoulder of the roadway. The Jeep struck a utility pole, which severed the pole and caused major damage to the Jeep.
Firefighter/paramedics used a power cutter extrication tool for a quick extrication.
Vazquez-Cordada, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was split in half by the force of the crash, and was towed on a flatbed truck.
