Garage fire, vehicle fire, and house fire on Harvard Ave, Arlington Heights.
Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:42 AM Wednesday December 6, 2017 to a report of a house fire with explosions in the garage at Harvard Avenue and Thomas Street Arlington Heights, Il. Arlington Heights fire chief reported a header in the sky while responding, and the fire response was upgraded to a Working Fire Response (Code 4) by 10:45 a.m.
Chief 100, first on scene, reported a working garage fire in a single-story ranch.
Engine 2’s crew on arrival reported a fully-involved garage fire.
There was a report of fireworks stored in the garage, and witnesses reported several small explosions from the garage before firefighters arrived.
Heavy fire was showing from the garage and a commercial vehicle parked on the driveway.
All occupants were out of the house by 10:47 a.m.
Engine 2’s crew had water on the fire with a 2 1/2-inch line by 10:51 a.m.
Fire was extending to the house with initial operations defensive. Firefirefighters put a major stop on the fire.
Eventually there was one line exterior and two lines in the house.
The fire was declared under controlled by about 11:04 a.m.
The fire re-kindled in the ceiling near the front of the house opposite the attached garage at about 12:42 p.m.
Firefighters also found fire above the kitchen and above a bedroom hallway in the attic.
Crews were pulling down the ceiling with tools search for additional fire.
Winds were 20 mph from the west and gusting to about 29 mph at the time of the firel.
The last fire personnel (investigating the fire) left the scene at about 4:40 p.m.
