Buffalo Grove police responded just after 9:30 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017 to a report of an armed robbery at the northwest corner of Lake Cook Road and McHenry Road at the Buffalo Grove Town Center parking lot.
Buffalo Grove police received a report that four suspects robbed a man at gunpoint when he met them in the shopping center parking lot, after scheduling a meeting on Craigslist to buy an Apple iPhone 8.
The man told police that after he parked alongside the suspects’ vehicle, two passengers got out and entered his car.
One of the men put a solid object to the back of the victim’s neck. The victim believed the object was a gun. The other man demanded the victim give them his belongings. The offenders searched the vehicle for items of value and took an iPhone 7 before going back to their vehicle. The offenders then drove off southbound toward Lake Cook Road, according to police.
The suspects’ vehicle was described as a silver, brown or beige Toyota Highlander.
The armed offender was described as a black or Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s with a curly mustache. He was wearing gloves, a hat and hooded sweatshirt with a blue triangle pattern on it.
The other offender inside his vehicle was described as a white male, approximately 30 years-old, with a goatee and short hair. He was wearing a dark-colored jacket and gloves.
The driver and the front-seat passenger in the Toyota Highlander were described as white men, according to Buffalo Grove police.
Police urge any citizens with information about the armed robbery to call Buffalo Grove police at 847-459-2560.
Police noted there is a “Safe Exchange Zone” for Internet sales exchanges at the Buffalo Grove Police Department, 46 Raupp Boulevard. The area includes the police parking lot, which has video surveillance, or the lobby, which offers a well-lit space that is audio- and video-recorded. Buffalo Grove police officers will observe the transactions when requested, police said.
The robbery occurred the day before a teen was convicted of reckless homicide in a botched Apple iPhone robbery in Round Lake in Lake County committed on April 24, 2017.
