Target will close stores at midnight Thanksgiving and re-open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. In 2016, Target had stayed open through the night and into Black Friday.
Target customers that spend $50 on Friday, November 24 will get a 20% coupon for future shopping. Also, Redcard loyalty card holders will first crack at about 100 Black Friday deals on the day before Thanksgiving, November 22, 2017.
Target plans to close 12 under-performing stores in several states, including the Matteson store and Romeoville store in Illinois. In early November 2015, Target announced it was closing 13 stores nationwide by January 31, 2016.
Target is still growing, however. After expanding with 32 smaller format stores in 2017, another 35 smaller format stores are planned in 2018. A smaller format store opened in Skokie in 2017 at 4955 Dempster Street near Bronx Avenue — near a CTA Yellow Line stop.
