A mother and her two children were kidnapped and driven more than 20 miles, when a carjacker stole their car from the parking lot of a Walgreens in north suburban Wheeling. CBS 2’s Susanna Song reports.
Wheeling police responded about 3:25 p.m. Sunday November 12, 2017 after a man walked out of Walgreens and discovered his wife and two kids were missing from the parking lot.
The male victim had stopped at the Walgreens at 10 North Milwaukee Avenue at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Dundee Road. He went inside the store, leaving his wife and two children, a 3-year-old and a one-week old infant, in their Acura TL 4-door while it was running.
While the husband was inside Walgreens, a man jumped in the driver’s seat and drove the car away with the family inside. The 22-year-old woman and her two children were later dropped off by the offender in the block of 4700 West Belmont Avenue on Chicago’s Northwest Side in Chicago Police Department’s 17th District about 21 miles away.
The suspect fled on foot, while taking the woman’s cash and cellphone, but leaving the vehicle behind. The mother and her two children were not hurt. The woman was able to get help from a passerby and called police.
The suspect — still at large — was described as a male black or male/Hispanic, 35-40 years old, wearing a green puffy jacket, white and black camouflaged pants, and gym shoes.
