CBS Chicago: A preliminary investigation showed that an argument broke out between several partygoers at a Halloween Party, and someone pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Lake Forest police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 12:04 AM Sunday October 29, 2017 to a report of a person shot at a large house party at 1359 West Estate Lane East, Lake Forest, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a person shot and killed, and possibly a second gunshot victim down at the scene or nearby. CBS Chicago is reporting that the party was located at 1330 West Estate Lane East. The home, where a gunshot victim was initially reported outside, was at 1359 West Estate Lane East — located across the street and to the south of 1330 West Estate Lane East. Possibly 1359 was merely a known address reported in the neighborhood.
About 12:10 a.m. Sunday, and early in the confusion of the scene, there was a report of a second gunshot victim at Lawrence Avenue and Oak Knoll, north of the crime scene, but the discovery of a second shooting victim was not confirmed. Ambulance 421 was assigned as a second ambulance to the scene.
Early in the response to the incident, there was one man confirmed dead at the scene — outside of the house. Apparently, there was an argument involving several people, when an offender started shooting. The house is located at the end of a long driveway, and is secluded by many trees on the lot. Estate Lane East is a dead-end street with ten homes on the street and cul-de-sac. The neighborhood is located in southwest Lake Forest, with the house less than one mile east of I-94 and exactly one mile north of Half Day Road.
A warming vehicle was requested at Oak Knoll north of Old Mill, where about eight people were reported at risk of hypothermia while standing on Oak Knoll, just north of Old Mill Road.
There was a report that there was a large group of people outside near the scene that refused to leave. Police set up a large perimeter with police tape, keeping anyone from passing north of the intersection of Oak Knoll and Old Mill.
Deerfied police, Highland park police, Lake county Sheriff office, Libertyville police, Lincolnshire police, and Northbrook police also responded to the scene.
The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and a Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit were called to the scene in the early morning hours to attempt to track a suspect and/or evidence.
Police also blocked Estate Lane at Everett Road.
Police urge anyone with information about the shooting the call Lake Forest Police Department at 847-810-3818 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222.
