Streamwood police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 6:18 PM Wednesday October 25, 2017 to a report of a man unresponsive in a sewer system, 501 South Park Boulevard Streamwood, Il. Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a man unresponsive in a manhole.

Fire Command immediately upgraded the incident to a Technical Rescue Team (TRT) call with DECON 1 and SCHAUMBURG SQD 55/55A added to the call.
Park Boulevard was immediately closed between Woodland and Streamwood Boulevard.
As of 7:48 p.m. the person was no lift up through the manhole.
Firefighter TRT technicians were working over a manhole with a tripod that raises and lowers rescuers, and raises the victim.
Streamwood Hazmat 31 was dispatched to the scene at 8:27 p.m.
The victim had not been found as of 8:40 p.m. Firefighters are navigating in pipes underground with assistance from personnel from the Streamwood Public Works Department.
Firefighters are targeting a 24-inch main that is north of the hole or manhole. They are possibly targeting an area about 30 feet north of the manhole.
There is water in the pipes that needs to be secured during the rescue operation. Firefighters also monitor air quality and check for unsafe gases in the pipes.
About 9:30 p.m. Division 2 TRT Techs were requested to stage near the scene in case they might be needed. Division 2 communities are west of Streamwood.
About 9:50 p.m. Fire Command learned that only a few TRT techs were on duty from Division 12.
The man was recovered at 10:22 p.m. and transported by Streamwood Ambulance 33 directly to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office in Chicago — leaving the scene about 10:54 p.m.
